Poke’moan’ GOOO [Short Story]

I am meeting Rahini today after nearly a decade. We were best buddies in college, almost inseparable. But life got in the way and some how we had lost in touch. Thanks to Facebook, she somehow found me and messaged and now we are going to meet in a Cafe’ Coffee day by Besant Nagar Beach.

Coffee

I’m pretty excited, I’m sure she would be too. I can’t believe that we were in the same city all the while and we never met. But thanks to Facebook 🙂 I love you FB.

It was very unlike me, but I came on time and to the right place too. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Rahini was already there, her dashing self. We instantly recognized each other. She hasn’t aged a day since college. I’m almost jealous.

I remember checking her timeline, she definitely seems to have had an exciting life. National and International Travels, Wonderful family, Children winning prizes in competitions. They surely seem to have taken their intelligence from their dad 😛

We sat down ordered a Coffee Mocha and a Cappuccino, unsure what is the difference even after it was delivered to our table. We sipped on coffee and started talking. She got a watsapp notification, and she unlocked her phone to respond, meanwhile checked her tweets as well, and face book notifications too. She was nodding though as I spoke, occasionally smiling and frowning, but it might have been because of her feeds, I couldn’t be too sure.

I was telling her about the tough times my company was going through and that retrenchment was under cards. Rahini gave out a happy squeal suddenly. I paused, and I asked her “What happened?”

“Caught a rare Pokemon. Sorry, you were saying something right..I’m very sorry about your company. Send me your resume. I’ll see what I can do. I have a lot of contacts in your field.”

Rahini gave me her updates too. Occasionally tearing her eyes away from the screen to look at me or the wall behind me as she continue to multitask between her phone, our conversation and the Coffee.

“Rahini, are you always this busy on phone?” I asked.

“Yeah. I’m available round the clock. You can message me on WhatsApp/FB/Twitter any time of the day, and you can be rest assured you will get a response from me in under a minute. but now with this Pokemon Go..it’s got even crazier”

“Yeah, I can understand”, I said with a sigh. Augmented  Reality seemed more real to her. “Ok. Nice meeting you, gotta go now”, I said.

“Oh, C’mon, We are meeting after a long time, you should stay longer.” she said.

“May be, Next time.” I said, getting up, resolving never again in my head.

“Wait, wait, let’s take a selfie…just see how many likes this will get now”

I looked at her cellphone and smiled for one last time.

  1. Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and all. Nevertheless imagine if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, «pop»! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this blog could definitely be one of the best in its field. Excellent blog!

  2. Youre so right. Im there with you. Your blog is surely worth a read if anyone comes throughout it. Im lucky I did because now Ive obtained a entire new view of this. I didnt realise that this problem was so important and so universal. You absolutely put it in perspective for me.

  4. The idea that there could be elaborate concentrations of urban and suburban populations (engaged in complex activities not directly related to subsistence) without a visible connection to a system of economic production and distribution simply strains my credulity.oh, no, my dear baron–you forget the Matter Compiler–the ultimate analogy of dole dependency for the thetes in the leased territories. A “welfare machine”, if you will. You know what I think–that science fiction is the test vehicle for the outre frontier paradigms and shocking-scary advances of pure science.

  5. Haha so true and so sad 🙁 I speak to you eye to eye when we meet the next time 🙂
